Check your shawarma and your beef since what you buy may be Carabao meat. Sources in the meat processing industry have warned that the increase in the number of accredited Indian carabeef suppliers may lead to a flood of meat products in the market since their meat sells at only $1.20 per kilo.

Administrative Order 22 was approved last November by Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala.

The idea is to put in place standards on the hygienic handling of frozen, chilled and thawed meat to avoid food-borne diseases and provide consumers with the assurance of safe and quality products.
