RA 10536 Amends RA 9296

House Bill No. 5490 (introduced by Representatives Mark Llandro L. Mendoza, Nicanor M. Briones, Cesar G. Jalosjos, Romeo M. Acop, and Anthony G. del Rosario on December 15, 2011) and Senate Bill No. 3388 (filed by Senators Antonio “Sonny” F. Trillanes, Francis N. Pangilinan, and Manny B. Villar on January 22, 2013), which was passed by both Houses on 3rd Reading on February 4, 2013, was approved by H. E. President Benigno S. Aquino III last May 15, 2013 into law as Republic Act No. 10536 entitled: “An Act Amending Republic Act No. 9296 otherwise known as ‘The Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines’”.

No price increases seen as gov’t cracks down on meat smuggling

MANILA, Philippines—The prices of pork and poultry will not go up in spite of a new Department of Agriculture order that seeks to curb the smuggling of meat by fly-by-night operators, two associations of local meat producers said on Saturday.

D.A.– A.O. NO. 9, Series  of 2013, Shall take effect on May 6 this year

         The Department of Agriculture – Administrative Order (D.A. – A.O.) No. 9 (Supplemental Guidelines to D.A. – A.O. No. 26, series of 2005, Section III: Accreditation Procedures for Meat Importers) issued by Agriculture Secretary Hon. Proceso J. Alcala last March 18 shall take effect on May 6 this year, as announced by NMIS Executive Director Dr. Minda S. Manantan during the Meat Industry Orientation to the said A.O. that was successfully conducted by NMIS on April 16, 2013 at 1:00 pm in the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), Visayas Avenue, corner Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City and which was participated by 219 accredited meat importers of the country and 39 new meat importer-applicants.
