Training-Workshop on ISO/IEC 17020:2012 for DA Inspectors Conducted

The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) recently conducted a Training-Workshop on Conformity Assessment on  International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission  (ISO/IEC) 17020:2012 at Ciudad Christhia Resort, Inc., Carrieland Country Home II, Ampid, San Mateo, Rizal last January 22-24, 2014 with Societe Generale Surveillance (SGS) as the lecturer/service provider. It was attended by thirty-four (34) participants coming from three (3) Government regulatory agencies namely; NMIS, Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF).

The course is a practical introduction to the requirements of ISO 17020:2012 for agencies performing various types of inspections. Moreover, it aims to standardize the inspection system and improve the capacity of NMIS and BAI inspectors to undertake evaluation of Foreign Meat Establishment for accreditation to export meat and meat products into the country.

The Executive Director of NMIS, DR. Minda S. Manantan gave the inspirational message during the opening program on January 22, 2014. It was followed by special messages given by Dr. Rubina O. Cresencio, Director of BAI; Mr. Esmael Ebrahim, Commissioner of NCMF; and Ms. Ditas Rodriguez, Division Manager of SGS.

The workshop was funded by the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).
