And to translate these opportunities into reality for smallholder farmers, the agency said it will sustain its efforts meant to provide the necessary facilities and policy environment for further growth.

NMIS Updates On Department Of Agriculture (DA) 2nd Border Roll-Out To Major Cities In Vis-Min

September 4, 2015- “The 2nd Border roll-out in Luzon is already in place”, reported Dr. Roie-Lee Cataluna, NMIS Meat Control Officer II, during the meeting of the interagency DA Harmonized 2nd Border Import Inspection Protocol. The meeting was convened by the NMIS to present updates on and to streamline the hiring and training of additional Agricultural Compliance Officers (ACO) for the roll-out of operations to the major ports in Visayas and Mindanao (Vis-Min). The Vis-Min roll-out is expected to be finalized by October 2014.

September 1, 2014- The NMIS kick-started the activities for the nationwide celebration of the 21st Meat Safety Consciousness Week (Presidential Proclamation No. 276 series of 1999) with the unfurling of the countdown banner led by the Executive Director Dr. Minda S. Manantan and OIC Deputy Executive Director Dr. Beata J. Olaguera-Obsioma at the Central Office. The theme of the 2014 MSCW is “Republic Act No. 10611 or the Food Safety Act: KALIGTASAN NG MAMAMAYAN AT KATUWANG SA KALAKALAN”..

Dr. Yukio Morita, Tokyo Kasei University Professor, Visits NMIS

August 31. 2014- The NMIS newly hired meat control officers and meat inspectors were briefed on the status of meat inspection in Japan by Dr. Yukio Morita, Professor at the College of Nutritional Science and Laboratory of Food Hygiene II at the Tokyo Kasei University. Dr. Morita, also a HACCP Lead Instructor at the Japan HACCP Training Center, was a member of the team responsible for the entry of Wagyu Beef to the U.S. market.
