Seminar on the Danish Food Safety System

During his speech at the “Seminar on Danish Food Safety”, DA Undersecretary Jose C. Reaño announced that the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) has declared the Philippines foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) free without vaccination and peste petits ruminants (PPR) free. He added that the Philippines is recognized as an avian-influenza free country with no recorded outbreak. The announcement was greeted warmly by the participants from both the government sector and livestock and meat industries. He called on the DA livestock agencies and members of the industry to take advantage of the OIE recognition to expand markets of Philippine meat and meat products. He added that there was much to learn from the regulatory experiences of the Danish Delegation in food safety especially as the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10611 had been signed.
