More LGUs receive grant for slaughterhouse upgrading 

The National Meat Inspection Service- Meat Standards Development and Consumer Protection Division (NMIS-MSDCPD) organized a two-day Social Preparation Orientation Workshop last September 20 to 21 for the 2019 recipients of NMIS Meat Establishment Improvement Program.

The participants composed of LGU representatives from Luna, Apayao and Tabuk City, Kalinga of Cordillera Administrative Region, Alicia, Isabela and Sta. Ana, Cagayan of Region II, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro and Gasan, Marinduque of Region IV-B, Camalig, Albay from Region V, and Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, and Valencia, Bohol of Region VII.

The workshop opened with a welcome message by NMIS Executive Director Dr. Ernesto S. Gonzales wherein he reiterated that his goal for NMIS is to provide a safe meat that will be available to every Filipinos.

He also emphasized that NMIS cannot achieve that goal on its own because it will need the help of local government units. “Malaki ang paniniwala ko na maabot natin ang goal kasi andiyan kayo”, he said.

The first day started with set of lectures. The first presentation on the Overview and Process Flow of MEIP was discussed by Dr. Easter Oblena, head of Planning and Information Management Division (PIMD) followed by  the LGU Roles in Slaughterhouse Operation and Management which was discussed by Dr. January M. Nones,  head of MSDCPD,

Architect Marianne Joy Limbo of Engineering Group discussed next the Slaughterhouse Standard Module where she presented the architectural, engineering, electrical, sanitary or plumbing design of a slaughterhouse. She was followed by her colleague from Engineering Group, Engr. Marivic Gapuz-Cruzada who discussed about the slaughterhouse design suited for installing equipment.

The first day ended with the discussion of Slaughterhouse License to Operate (LTO) System by Ms. Marilyn Bitong and GMP and SSOP Requirements by Ms. Daisy M. Morales, both from the Accreditation and Registration Division.

On the second day, Ms. Sheila Endrina, NMIS Information Officer discussed the Accreditation of Contractors and Fabricators while Mr. Emmanuel C. Sison, head of Accounting Division explained the payment scheme to be used in paying fees for NMIS services.

Dr. Theresa P. Wenceslao of PIMD ended the second day session by discussing the Legal Documents and Memorandum of Agreement.

 In closing the activity, Atty Beata Humilda Obsioma, NMIS Deputy Executive Director thanked and congratulated the attendees for their enthusiasm and participation and reminded them that they should comply the requirements as early as possible since the slots for the grant of MEIP is for limited slots only.
