Gender and Development Symposium held for NMIS Support Staff 

 The National Meat Inspection Service- Accreditation and Registration Division (ARD) organized a four-day seminar on Understanding Gender-Responsive Good Governance and Meat Safety Quality Assurance Program at Hotel Kimberly, Tagaytay last November 21-24, 2018.

The National Meat Inspection Service- Accreditation and Registration Division (ARD) organized a four-day seminar on understanding gender-responsive good governance and Meat Safety Quality Assurance Program at Hotel Kimberly, Tagaytay last November 21-24, 2018.

The first day of seminar began with Dr. Magdiwang S. Cruz, Head of ARD, explaining the workshop objectives of the activity done. He also talked about the things that participants should expect from the seminar.

After that, NMIS Executive Director Dr. Ernesto S. Gonzales proceeded with a lecture about the importance of right attitude and time management in increasing employees’ productivity.

Dr. Naida Bolvar, also discussed about Gender-responsive Good Governance wherein she tackled the significance of gender fair language, removing stereotype and sexism and how to be gender sensitive in the workplace.

Concluding the first day session was Dr. Easter Oblena, head of Planning and Information Management Division briefing the attendees about NMIS Profile, its history, and divisions.

The second day focused on discussing about some of the NMIS divisions and its specific functions. Dr. April Chavez represented the Accreditation and Registration Division while Dr. Cheryl Ann Cayad-an represented the Meat Import Export Division. Moreover, Dr. Ma. Elaine Joy Villareal represented the Plant Operation Standards and Monitoring Division and Dr. Mae Nimfa Cruz represented the Meat Standards Development and Consumer Protection Division.

There was also the discussion of Food Safety by Ms. Marilag D. Mojica during the second session. She presented various topics about food borne illness, food safety hazard and the major causes of food contamination.

Later that day, a recognition and graduation ceremony was held to acknowledge the attendees that had shown excellence and participation to the workshop.

It was also used to gain feedback and workshop assessment from the attendees which came from all the various divisions and units of NMIS.

NMIS Deputy Executive Director Atty. Beata Humilda Obsioma then gave a closing message wherein she emphasized that whatever position in the agency does not matter because each of the employees contribute through their own way for the success of NMIS.

She also asked the participants to memorize the vision, mandate and roles by heart in order to be productive and passionate employees.

The last two days were allotted for the plant visits on Monterey Cavite Meat Plant-Slaughterhouse in Dasmariñas and Cold Storage Warehouse-Mets Logistics in Carmona, Cavite wherein the attendees were given the time to tour around the place and observe the processes inside meat establishments.
