NMIS capacitates Regional Quick Response Teams

The National Meat Inspection Service- Plant Operation Standards and Monitoring Division conducted a Training Workshop for NMIS RTOC Quick Response Team last December 2-6, 2019 at Punta Villa Resort Inc. Iloilo City.

Attended by 17 participants, the 5 day workshop is the third QRT Seminar held this year. The first one was conducted last October and the second was on last November 25-29, 2019.

Moreover, unlike the first two which targeted Luzon Quick Response Team, this workshop handled Visayas and Mindanao QRT.

Topics like Outbreak Investigation and Management, QRT Roles and Responsibilities, Relevant administrative orders and memorandum on reportable diseases were thoroughly discussed by Dr. Carolyn Benigno, Dr. Ma. Elaine Joy Villareal. Supervising Meat Control Officer and Dr. Armie Marie Sebello, Senior Meat Control Officer from POSMD.

The agency’s event-based surveillance system, ExPRESS or Expert and Prompt Response Event-based Surveillance System was also presented during the workshop together with the Food Animal Disease Incident Report Form.

Representatives from Bureau of Animal Industry Doc Janice Garera, Veterinarian III and Dr. Oscar Cabanayan, Veterinarian II also served as speakers during the workshop. They shared the Outbreak Investigation and Management Experience on Henipah, Highly Pathogenic Avian Influeza and African Swine Fever outbreaks while Representatives from Department of Health, Mr. John Roel Hilario and Ms. Denise Lou Manalili discussed the same diseases in their own agency’s perspectives and experiences.
