RTOC V-LGU Legaspi Joint Enforcement Team Confiscates 22 Packs of Spoiled Chickens

July 2015. On July 22, 2015, the NMIS RTOC V Market Surveillance Team assisted the LGU of Legaspi City Veterinary Office (CVO) in the confiscation and disposition of twenty two (22) packs of spoiled chicken with an estimated volume of thirty (30) kilograms.

Acting on the request the CVO Dr. Nancy Andes, LGU of Legaspi City, NMIS RTOV V Regional Technical Director Fernando N. Lontoc convened the surveillance team. The team was composed of RTD Lontoc, Dr. Ernesto Tabing, Roberto Deocareza, Eleanor Surez, Celfe Salalima, Socorro Ballelos and Villahermosa Macuja.

The joint enforcement team of NMIS and CVO-Legazpi were briefed by RTD Lontoc on the procedure of post-abattoir operations. The enforcement team then proceeded to the Robinson’s Market where, after a brief resistance at the venue, they exercised the proper and necessary requirements for post-abattoir operations and confiscated the spoiled chicken. The team observed the signs of early stage spoilage through organoleptic inspection- the products showed discoloration and were giving off foul odor.

The joint enforcement team then went to a nearby PNP station in Legaspi City to formally record the confiscation activity. This was subsequently followed by the disposition of the confiscated products at the Albay Wildlife Park where the LGU-CVO Legaspi team led by Dr. Andes entrusted to the wildlife management the confiscated meat products.
