NMIS Opens 32nd Meat Safety Consciousness Week and Celebrates 53rd Founding Anniversary

The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) officially opened the 32nd Meat Safety Consciousness Week (MSCW) and celebrated its 53rd Founding Anniversary on October 13, 2025, at the NMIS SHE Hall, MITDC Building, Visayas Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City. The opening ceremony was attended by officials from the Department of Agriculture (DA), government partners, meat industry and stakeholders, former Executive Directors, NMIS employees, and Undersecretary for Livestock Dr. Constante J. Palabrica, who served as the keynote speaker.

This year’s celebration highlights more than five decades of NMIS’s steadfast commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of meat and meat products in the country. The celebration underscores the agency’s strengthened collaboration with industry partners and stakeholders in promoting a safe, sustainable, and globally competitive meat sector. In his message, Dr. Roberto S. Umali, Officer-in-Charge, Executive Director, emphasized the importance of continuous innovation, vigilance, and partnership in safeguarding public health through effective meat inspection and regulatory measures. He also noted that with the passage of the AIDCA Bill, NMIS has further solidified its institutional credibility. Dr. Ronnie Ernst A. Duque, Officer-in-Charge, Deputy Executive Director, introduced the keynote speaker as the representative of Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. Delivering the keynote address, Undersecretary Dr. Constante J. Palabrica underscored the integrity of NMIS and its employees as a vital foundation of the agency’s mission. “Mapagmamalaki ko na ang NMIS ay hindi mo kailangan bayaran para tumulong,” Dr. Palabrica said, commending the agency’s culture of integrity and dedication to public service. The week-long celebration features a meat fair, webinars, technical forums, stakeholder engagements, and recognition of outstanding contributions to meat safety and regulatory excellence. Since its establishment in 1972, NMIS has been at the forefront of meat inspection and food safety regulation, ensuring that every Filipino has access to safe and wholesome meat. This year’s milestone not only honors its rich legacy but also reaffirms NMIS’s enduring commitment to its mandate and vision of “Safe Meat for All.”.
