The NMIS steps up its commitment to strengthening the national campaign against Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)
As the 2025 Philippine Antimicrobial Awareness Week (PAAW) officially opened on November 17, the National Meat Inspection Service marked the occasion with a series of activities in support of the advocacy to combat AMR. The celebration began with an informative AMR Awareness Lecture delivered by Ms. Alyssa Mae Portes of the Central Meat Laboratory Division, which emphasized AMR as a silent pandemic, which is a growing global threat, its impact on food safety and security, public health, and the vital role of NMIS in preventing its spread.

This was followed by the unveiling of an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) pamphlet on Antimicrobial Resistance and Veterinary Drug Residue for Hog Farmers—an initiative spearheaded by Ms. Danica Angeline P. Dimaya, RCh. Culminating the event was the collective recitation of the AMR Pledge and the ceremonial signing of the Commitment Wall, led by Officer-in-Charge, Executive Director Dr. Roberto S. Umali, Officer-in-Charge, Deputy Executive Director Dr. Ronnie Ernst A. Duque, and the NMIS Regional Technical Directors. Employees from both the Central Office and Regional Offices nationwide participated in the pledge, reflecting unified support for the agency’s advocacy. Through these activities, NMIS reinforces its role as a champion of safe meat, responsible antimicrobial use, and One Health collaboration.
