Philippines soon to export chicken meat to Korea
Inspectors from the Korean Animal and Plant Quarantine Inspection Agency and Ministry of Food and Safety have recommended the approval of two local poultry dressing plants to export chicken meat to Korea. Assisted by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), the Korean teams conducted an on-site inspection last May 10 to 11 at Johanna’s Chicken Processing Center, LDP Farms, Mofels’ Food International Corporation and AslaxPhils Corporation. Only Johanna’s and LDP Farms, however, were found to have passed the sanitary and processing requirements necessary to ensure the production of safe food.The Korean inspection team have recommended minor improvements to the two plants and directed them to submit report of their compliance to NMIS. The NMIS in turn will assess the validity of result and send these to Korea if found to have fully complied with the suggested improvement.
NMIS HEAD RETIRES FROM POST
After forty one years, Dr. Minda S. Manantan the Executive Director National Meat Inspection Service, bids goodbye to public service. In a turn-over ceremony held last June 30 at the NMIS Salvador H. Escudero III Hall, Dr. Manantan turned over the manning of NMIS affairs to Atty. Beata Obsioma, the incumbent Deputy Executive Director.

NMIS sets up environmental plan for slaughterhouses
The National Meat Inspection Service recently held a training-workshop in Tagaytay on the Development of Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for Slaughterhouses and Poultry Dressing Plants for ten Local Government Units who are recipients of Meat Establishment Improvement Program. The activity aims to provide training and assistance in the development of EMP to address the significant environmental impact brought by slaughterhouse operations. The EMP is to be based on the reduction of pollutants from the source, the use of best available technology, the use of best environmental practices and the efficient use of energy.
