NMIS continues to fortify the LMIS

The National Meat Inspection Service highlighted the strengthening of Local Meat Inspection System (LMIS) in the Performance Assessment and Commitment of Meat Standards Development and Consumer Protection Division (MSDCPD) last February 3-5, 2020 at Mansion Garden Hotel, Subic, Zambales.


The development of Local Meat Inspection System which is part of NMIS priority programs this year up to 2022 will be supported by the amended Executive Order No. 137 which is currently in the process of legal scrubbing.

Dr. Edna Gray, Officer in charge of MSDCPD, reiterated the importance of LMIS to have a better meat inspection system. She further discussed the steps needed in order to fully institutionalize LMIS such as assessment and validation of LGU Capability to implement LMIS before its certification and the long process of amending the E.O. 137.

The participants were also given ample time to present their commitments not only in programs for strengthening of LMIS but also in Food Safety Programs for LGUs, Basic Meat Inspection Training Course and other programs and activities of the division.

The Performance Assessment and Commitment was attended by MSDCPDS Focal Persons of NMIS-Regional Technical Operation Centers and was organized by MSDCPD.
