NMIS discusses online selling of meat in BAFS webinar
In support to the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards 22nd founding anniversary with the theme, “Walang Iwanan: Ligtas at Dekalidad na Pamantayan sa Gitna ng Pandemya", the National Meat Inspection Service delegated one of its personnel as a resource speaker to the virtual seminar: Technical Webinar on Online Meat Selling and its Safety, December 3, 2020.
NMIS Information Officer III Ms. Roberta Riguer in the first part of her presentation, discussed the mandate of NMIS to implement policies, programs, guidelines, and rules and regulations pertaining to meat inspection and meat hygiene as mentioned in the Republic Act 9296 as amended by R.A. 10536 or the Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines.
She also highlighted the policies on online selling of meat that the agency released throughout the pandemic such as Memorandum Circular No. 07-2020-010- Use of Meat importers Certificate of Accreditation Number for Traceability of Online Selling of Meat, Public Advisory on online selling issued and posted in Website and NMIS FB Page, Memorandum Circular No. 7 – Guidelines on Online Selling and House Delivery of Meat and Memorandum Order No.07-2020-271- Actions to be taken on Online Selling of Meat.
Ms. Riguer also shared the actions taken by NMIS Regional Offices for the implementation of guidelines on online selling of meat such as meeting and profiling of online sellers, guiding local government units in drafting ordinance to regulate the online selling of meat, enforcement, monitoring and surveillance and information dissemination activities, buy-bust operations, close coordination with LGUs particularly Vet Office, posting of advisory and drafting letters to LGUs to regulate online selling.
The topic, online selling of meat was chosen based on the poll conducted by the BAFS in which this concern garnered the highest vote from the respondents.
The webinar which was participated by 73 attendees was streamed using Facebook Live of BAFS Official FB page and was hosted by Ms. Jerilee Sabiriaga and Mr. Aljon Reyes.
