NMIS orients 2021 MEIP recipients

 

Local government units from San Miguel, Iloilo, El Salvador, Misamis Oriental and Cauayan City, Isabela participated in the recent National Meat Inspection Service- Social Preparation Orientation Workshop (SPOW) for Meat Establishment Improvement Program (MEIP) recipients held this December 3-4, 2020 via Zoom.

 

The MEIP provides technical and financial assistance to LGUs in upgrading their slaughter facilities to “AA” accreditation standards. The MEIP is a 50:50 cost sharing scheme; the LGUs source 50% of the project cost from their General Appropriations Act while the NMIS contributes the other 50% from its Meat Inspection Development Trust Fund.

 

NMIS discusses online selling of meat in BAFS webinar

 

In support to the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards 22nd founding anniversary with the theme, “Walang Iwanan: Ligtas at Dekalidad na Pamantayan sa Gitna ng Pandemya", the National Meat Inspection Service delegated one of its personnel as a resource speaker to the virtual seminar: Technical Webinar on Online Meat Selling and its Safety, December 3, 2020.

 

NMIS Information Officer III Ms. Roberta Riguer in the first part of her presentation, discussed the mandate of NMIS to implement policies, programs, guidelines, and rules and regulations pertaining to meat inspection and meat hygiene as mentioned in the Republic Act 9296 as amended by R.A. 10536 or the Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines.

 

NMIS discusses food safety challenges for the B-SAFE Project

 

The National Meat Inspection Service participated in the recently conducted virtual interview by Winrock International for the Building Safe Agriculture Food Enterprises (B-SAFE) Project, November 20, 2020. The interview was done to assess the capacity needs of NMIS when it comes on performing its food safety mandates.

 

The B-SAFE, a project launched by the Winrock International, works with the Government of Philippines to provide agencies with the tools and information needed to implement evidence-based risk analysis, helping the government meet obligations under domestic law and international food safety and trade protocols.

NMIS conducts virtual SPOW 2020

 

The National Meat Inspection Service held recently the 2020 Social Preparation Orientation Workshop (SPOW) for the Bayanihan 2 Project to Heal as One Act beneficiaries via Zoom.

The recipients of the project are two local government units: Tanauan in Batangas and Malagos in Davao and two institutions: San Jose Workers’ Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Batangas and Pampanga State Agriculture University.

 

Provincial engineers, architects, veterinarians and heads or presidents of the institutions and local government units attended the virtual orientation together with NMIS Regional Technical Directors of their respective regions namely: Dr. Orlando Ongsotto of Region III, Dr. Fernando Lontoc of Region IV-A and Dr. Rolando Marquez of Region XI.
